Warde Manuel speaks out on rumors about his future

By admin — In News — July 14, 2026

Over the weekend, a big portion of the Michigan football fanbase and national media had essentially decreed that athletic director Warde Manuel was likely to be on his way out of the program. Some outlets, such as ESPN, pointed to a Thursday regents meeting as the time when a change could be made, or a buyout would be proffered. However, there is nothing regarding the Jenner & Block report or the athletic department on the docket — though it could always be addressed in the Traverse City meeting. In an interview on The Michigan Insider, Manuel affirmed that he’s unsure as to what will happen, but he’s relatively confident that he will remain in his role, echoing what he said to Yahoo Sports on Monday.”I’ve had several conversations over the last six or seven months about the future and things that have happened and different opportunities and different ways that things could go. There’s no doubt about it. I’m not going to hide from that conversation that occurs. But as it relates to where things are going to go, I’m not 100% certain.”Manuel also blasted the early reports that he was on his way out, having told The Michigan Insider — and chronicled by Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger — ‘Don’t believe everything out there (. . .) I think I’ve been fired by social media three times. It’s nonsense. It affects my staff and my family.”This latest iteration of Manuel coming under fire is on the heels of the athletic department-commissioned investigation into the culture of sports, following Sherrone Moore’s inappropriate relationship with his assistant, Paige Shiver. Shiver has ordered a FOIA request to the university with the intention of suing Michigan in the wake of her affair with Moore. Manuel fired Moore after Shiver had come clean about the affair.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThere have been conflicting reports, even from reputable reporters, indicating that Manuel and the university are working on a buyout. This article originally appeared on Wolverines Wire: Warde Manuel speaks out on rumors about his future
