Jersey numbers in sports are one of the few ways players get to express themselves. Some people just pick a random number, but others choose one with some sort of significance, whether it be their favorite number, a nod to a former player, or an ode to somebody important to them. With this is mind, it makes it a big deal when a player changes their number, especially if they have become synonymous with it. Four Penn State players will be making the big switch this year and will head into the 2026 season with a new look. It was reported earlier today that running back James Peoples, EDGE Ikenna Ezeogu, wide receiver Peter Gonzalez, and quarterback Connor Barry will all be changing their numbers next season.Peoples will be switching from No. 23 to No. 1, Ezeogu from No. 88 to No. 1, Gonzalez from No. 84 to No. 7 and Barry from No. 17 to No. 10. Interestingly enough, none of these players have ever taken a snap with the Nittany Lions, so it shouldn’t be too big of an adjustment for fans.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWith media day just a couple weeks away and the season set to kick off in less than two months, fans will get their fix of Penn State football soon enough. And when they do, there will be a ton of fresh faces, and new numbers, to look out for.FollowNittany Lions Wire on X and Facebook. This article originally appeared on Nittany Lions Wire: 4 Penn State players make notable change ahead of 2026 season
