After a dramatic final 10 laps on the high banks of Slinger Super Speedway, Casey Johnson stood alone in victory lane Tuesday night, winning the Slinger Nationals for the first time and cementing his place among the event’s all-time winners. Johnson emerged victorious after multiple incidents over the final laps involving contenders Ty Majeski, Gabe Sommers, Carson Brown and Andrew Morrissey. The Stoughton, Wisconsin driver took the lead from Carson Brown on a restart with three laps to go before pulling away to claim the biggest win of his career. After a fairly calm second half of the 200-lap race, the drama intensified in the final 10 laps beginning with a three-way battle between defending winner Ty Majeski, polesitter Gabe Sommers and ASA STARS National Tour points leader Carson Brown. Majeski, who dominated the majority of the final 100 laps, spun to the infield with four laps to go after contact with Sommers on the frontstretch. On the ensuing restart, Andrew Morrissey entered the picture and took over the lead from Brown. A lap later, another caution set the stage for another duel between Morrissey and Brown with three laps to go. The two made contact multiple times before, during and after the restart before Morrisey eventually rode up the back of Brown’s No. 81 and spun to the infield. With heavy damage on his car, Brown remained on the race track with a new competitor to his outside: Casey Johnson. Taking advantage of Brown’s ill-handling and damaged car, Johnson easily got the best of Brown on the restart to take the lead and the victory. Austin Nason moved up to second in the closing laps, while Brown hung on to finish third. Jesse Bernhagen moved up from his 17th starting spot to finish fourth and Derek Thorn completed the top five.
