BEREA ― Travis Switzer knew whatever he did when he was an adult, it was going to involve football.Switzer knew it growing up in Lancaster, Pa. That led him to a college football career at the University of Akron in the early 2010s.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhen those playing days ended, Switzer’s desire to remain in football didn’t diminish. That led him to coaching, which has led him back to Northeast Ohio as the offensive coordinator for the Browns.Subscribe to Browns Insider newsletter1 / 28Cleveland Browns wide receiver Isaiah Bond, right, participates in drills during the second day of the team’s mandatory minicamp at CrossCountry Mortgage Campus, June 10, 2026, in Berea, Ohio.(Jeff Lange, Akron Beacon Journal)”I mean, football was always a love of mine,” Switzer told the Beacon Journal in an interview on the last day of June minicamp. “I mean, it was always a huge part of my life. I was going to try to play as long as I could. When they told me I wasn’t good enough to play anymore, I was going to coach. I knew it had to be a part of me. I wanted to be a part of a team. There’s nothing like that in the world, being part of a team, everybody working together for one goal. So, yeah, I think that’s really what led to that.”The Browns are only the second stop in Switzer’s coaching journey. He got his start with the Baltimore Ravens in 2017 with the title of “Administrative assistant/performance,” which grew to “Performance staff assistant” in 2019 to “Coaching analyst/offense in 2019-20.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe big on-field breakthrough had started in 2021, when he was elevated to offensive quality control coach. He remained in that role through 2023, the first year Todd Monken was the Ravens’ offensive coordinator.”When I first got to Baltimore, Greg Roman had been the offensive coordinator, designed the whole run game,” Monken said during the NFL owners meetings in March. “Where everywhere else I’ve been, the O-line coach had a huge hand in the run game. So when I got there, Joe D’Alessandris, who’s passed away since then, he did more of the protections. When I interviewed Travis to decide whether to just keep him on the staff, he went through the run game and absolutely killed it.”Switzer was promoted in 2024 to be the Ravens’ run game coordinator. That coincided with Baltimore signing running back Derrick Henry to add to an offense that was led by the quarterback unicorn that is Lamar Jackson. The Ravens were a top-three rushing team each of the two seasons in which Switzer held the run game coordinator title, including leading the league in 2024 in rushing yards per game (187.6) and total rushing yards (3,189). Over the three seasons he worked with Monken in Baltimore, the Ravens ranked first in rushing yards with 8,512 yards (166.9 yards per game), second in scrimmage yards (19,860) and third in points per game (27.9).AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”Our job was to mix, blend what I’ve done in the
