He became the highest-paid player in franchise history when he inked a four-year, $104 million contract to join the Patriots, and many wondered if his high-volume production would translate when seeing a much higher percentage of the defensive snaps.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhen the 2025 regular season kicked off, Williams answered the bell as the anchor of New England’s interior defensive line. His combination of quickness and physicality at the line of scrimmage made him equally dangerous against the run and pass, and his ability to penetrate into the offensive backfield melded perfectly with the Patriots’ defensive scheme up front.Paired with Robert Spillane hovering over the top at the second level, the two helped the New England defense begin the season with a streak of eight consecutive games without allowing an opposing rusher to top the 50-yard mark, and 11 straight games without allowing a 100-yard rusher. That came to an end in Week 12 — the first of five weeks Williams missed due to injury.
