Nine years after he last served as a head coach and three years after he last served as a senior assistant, 71-year-old coach John Fox is back in the NFL.Fox, who held senior defensive assistant roles with the Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions in 2022 and 2023, respectively, sat out the 2024 and 2025 seasons as it appeared he was ready to step away from football.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe veteran coach returned to the league in February, though, joining the Buffalo Bills as a senior assistant under new head coach Joe Brady. Fox agreed to return to the NFL in part because he believes Buffalo’s squad “can get done what he himself was not able to in three Super Bowl appearances,” according to David Benjamin De Cristofaro of Bills Wire.”Winning a Super Bowl is realistic, to be real honest with you,” Fox said in a recent interview with The Buffalo News. “It’s a big reason I’m here.”Fox served as a head coach of three NFL teams, including a stint with the Denver Broncos from 2011-2014. Denver went 46-18 and won four straight division titles during Fox’s tenure in Denver, but it wasn’t until Gary Kubiak took over in 2015 that the Broncos got over the hump and won Super Bowl 50.After losing two Super Bowls as a head coach (one with the Carolina Panthers and one with Denver), Fox will now hope to win a title as a senior assistant with the Bills.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementSocial: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Did you know: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans. This article originally appeared on Broncos Wire: 71-year-old ex-Broncos coach returns to NFL with a clear objective
