Tennessee commit Christian Mays rated as top JUCO defensive lineman in the country

   ​A sort of glossed-over commitment in early June now looks quite a bit more important for the Tennessee Volunteers. Christian Mays, a JUCO defensive lineman from Northeast Mississippi Community College, committed to Tennessee back on June 6th.Initially, Mays wasn’t ranked by any service, but did hold multiple SEC offers. Mays ended up choosing Tennessee over Auburn, and this week has been officially ranked as one of the top prospects in the JUCO ranks.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to Rivals, Mays ranks as the No. 2 overall player in the group and the top defensive lineman in junior college. The 6-4, 320 pound prospect reacted to the news over the weekend.Mays had five tackles for loss and 17 total tackles along with one sack in his first season at Northeast Mississippi. He has one season remaining at the JUCO level before he will be able to join Tennessee as a member of the class of 2027.Mays also took official visits to Mississippi State, Arkansas and Auburn. Tennessee currently has 16 total commitments in the class of 2027 ahead of the all-important David Gabriel-Georges decision. Mays is currently the only defensive line commitment in the class to this point.
