The summer doldrums are officially here, but that did not stop ESPN college basketball guru Joe Lunardi from releasing his latest monthly offseason update to his bracketology predictions for the 2027 NCAA Tournament. The Florida Gators are still the top-seeded team overall and in the East Region according to Lunardi’s latest offering, and are still matched up with two projected No. 16 seeds — the Howard Bison and Tennessee State Tigers — in the first round held in Charlotte, North Carolina. Otherwise, the field of 76 schools saw just a few modest changes from last month’s update.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementTodd Golden and the Gators tip off the 2026-27 campaign on Monday, Nov. 2, against the Miami Hurricanes in the Orion180 Tip-Off Classic at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.Florida still holds both the top overall seed as well as the No. 1 spot in the East, while the reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines shifted to the No. 1 seed in the West, the Duke Blue Devils slid over to take over the Midwest and the Illinois Illini now sit atop the South. The Southeastern Conference slipped a school down to a dozen — but so did the Big Ten — as they remained tied for the most representation in ESPN’s bracketology, while the Big 12 moved up to 10 and the Atlantic Coast Conference has seven to round out the Power Four schools. Meanwhile, the Big East matched the ACC with seven, while the Atlantic 10, West Coast and Atlantic Sun conferences still have a pair among those with more than one school included.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFlorida once again headlines the SEC with the top seed in the East, while the Texas Longhorns and Arkansas Razorbacks swapped seeds, with the former now No. 2 in the South and the latter No. 3 in the West; the Alabama Crimson Tide remain a No. 3 seed but moved over to the Midwest. Following them are the Tennessee Volunteers (No. 5, South), Kentucky Wildcats (No. 5, Midwest), Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 6, East), Missouri Tigers (No. 8, West), Auburn Tigers (No. 8, South), Georgia Bulldogs (No. 8, Midwest), Texas A&M Aggies (No. 9, East) and Oklahoma Sooners (No. 11, West).Texas A&M remains first among the last four byes category and the LSU Tigers fell into the top spot in the first four out group, while the Mississippi State Bulldogs were demoted to the next four out.Follow us @GatorsWire on X, formerly known as Twitter, as well as Bluesky, and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Florida Gators news, notes and opinions. This article originally appeared on Gators Wire: Florida holds onto top overall seed in ESPN’s July bracketology update
