​After previously entering the transfer portal, Iowa wrestling’s Kale Petersen will remain a Hawkeye.Petersen rescinded his entry into the transfer portal last week, according to an Iowa spokesperson, and he will stay with the program. Petersen is a three-time high school state champion with a 135-6 record for Greene County. At Iowa, he owns a 26-9 record.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementHe is 5-5 in duals, with a 3-3 mark in Big Ten duals. He has competed at 125, 133 and 141 pounds during his college career. He’ll have two years of eligibility remaining.While he has not made the postseason starting lineup for the Hawkeyes, Petersen has started many duals over the last three seasons. His pedigree coming out of high school and performances in college suggest he has the potential to be an NCAA qualifier-type of wrestler.As for Iowa, its transfer portal departures remained at a minimum this offseason. Former Hawkeye lightweight Dru Ayala left for Iowa State, following his brother Drake Ayala, who took an assistant coaching job with the Cyclones. Jordan Williams was the first Hawkeye to announce his intentions to enter the transfer portal back on March 31, but remains in the portal, according to an Iowa spokesperson.Williams has wrestled at the Senior World Team Trials, U23 Nationals and the U23 Pan-American Championships with the Hawkeye Wrestling Club over the spring and summer, winning a U23 National Title and a U23 Pan-Am gold medal, but has not announced his intentions for the 2026-27 season.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAdditionally, Iowa secured the commitment of three transfer portal additions in Ryan Crookham (Lehigh), Carter Schubert (Oklahoma) and Ray Griffin (North Idaho College) this offseason.Eli McKown covers high school sports and wrestling for the Des Moines Register.
