One of the last New Orleans Saints questions that was left has just been answered. Alvin Kamara and the New Orleans Saints are nearing a deal to keep the star RB on the team for another year, per Nick Underhill and The Set with Terron Armstead. Before getting to how big of news this is, there needs to be background. Entering the offseason, the New Orleans Saints had to find a new RB to lead their team into the foreseeable future. The running game struggled last season, and although the offensive line was at fault for some of it, the RBs themselves were also to blame. For a young QB like Tyler Shough, a strong run game can take significant pressure off him, so the Saints clearly needed to make moves.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAfter being linked with rookie RB Jeremiyah Love, the Saints instead set their sights on free agency, signing former Jacksonville Jaguars RB Travis Etienne. This was a significant move by the team, and it made a clear statement with this signing: a new RB was here to lead the rushing attack.Although with this move, the question of Kamara’s future was created. The star RB dealt with injuries all of last season, and it clearly showed when he tried to play through them. Still, some blocking issues and other moments when healthy showed that Kamara was not the same player he was a few years ago. This is perfectly fine, and the team understood that it was an important factor of the offseason. Still, Kamara is a really good player, and having him as RB2 or another RB1 to share the workload with Etienne is an exciting future. The only way that was going to happen was if the two sides could come to an agreement. Kamara had a year left on his deal, but the number was something the Saints did not want to have on their books, which is why the RB was a part of trade rumors the entire offseason. Even with those rumors, Kamara made a surprising decision to show up ot OTAs. This put pressure on the organization to keep Kamara no matter what, but it also meant that Kamara was open to a new deal. Both sides respect each other; an agreement just needed to happen.Well, that agreement is indeed happening, and Kamara is set to be a part of a very dynamic offense in New Orleans.
