Washington Huskies Head Coach Overseas to Scout Potential Recruit

By admin — In News — July 16, 2026

The Washington Huskies men’s basketball team is currently practicing for preparation of the 2026-27 season, albeit a couple men down. One of the Huskies returning players from last season, forward Nikola Dzepina, is currently competing for his native Serbia in the FIBA Eurobasket tournament overseas and averaged an efficient 17-plus points in three games in the group stage. The second spot down is due to a vacancy on the roster. Washington currently has 14 players on the team, leaving it with one spot available until the roster is at capacity.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to reports, that spot could be reserved for Slovenian guard Urban Kroflic, who’s also competing for his native country in FIBA Eurobasket. The Huskies’ interest in Kroflic has been reported for months and apparently the team is ramping up the potential recruitment for the international guard.According to a post on “X” from LayUp Hoops (@Layup_Scouting), Washington head coach Danny Sprinkle is in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, to court Kroflic. In addition to the Huskies, the Iowa Hawkeyes and Rutger Scarlet Knights are also reportedly trying to land Kroflic.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe combo point/shooting guard averaged 13.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and two steals per game in the group stage.Kroflic is a versatile guard capable of sliding in as either a secondary ball handler on the court or a guard off the ball capable of driving to the hoop.Kroflic is listed at 6-foot-6, 200 pound guard also has the size to make him a capable defender on the wing.Given his size, Kroflic will also be able to line up on the wing, and is able to hit from beyond the arc (37.5% from beyond the arc).Washington’s backcourt is currently comprised of a combination of newcomers and returners from last season. Projected starting shooting guard, junior Wesley Yates III, is set to return after an injury-plagued 2025-26 season. Sophomore BJ Roy is also set to return.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe team’s anticipated starting point guard, senior Ryan Beasley, transferred from San Francisco and the team also landed a commitment from Australian guard Tristan Devers, who is coming off a stint in the National Basketball League in Australia. If the Huskies land a commitment from Kroflic, he will be the fourth international signing of the offseason and the fifth on the team. The other three UW landed this offseason were Brazilian forward Wini Braga, Devers, Croation forward Boris Tisma and Dzepina, who joined the team last winter.Remember to join our HUSKIES ROUNDTABLE community, which is FREE!
