​One of the biggest quarterback battles in college football was taking place in Virginia, with the Cavaliers choosing between Missouri transfer Beau Pribula and Pitt transfer Eli Holstein. According to Steve Reed of the Associated Press, Tony Elliott, at ACC Media Days, says that Pribula won the starting battle.Pribula has tried to establish himself at several places. From York, Pennsylvania, he grew up a Penn State fan, and when the three-star recruit got offered by the Nittany Lions, he committed on Dec. 15, 2021.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementUnfortunately, he never got to start because of Drew Allar. After the 2024 college football season, Pribula entered the transfer portal on Dec. 15, 2024. The Missouri Tigers picked him up from the transfer portal on Dec. 22.Pribula started 10 games with the Tigers, posting meager numbers. He had 1,941 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. To add insult to injury, he suffered an injury against the Vanderbilt Commodores in Week 8 that hampered him the rest of the season. He transferred again on Dec. 18, 2025, and committed to Virginia on Jan. 12, 2026.Now, he gets a second chance to become the full-time starter at Virginia. The Cavaliers shocked everyone last season, making it to the ACC championship with an 11-2 record, the best in school history. Pribula is expected to have a transfer running back (Tennessee’s Peyton Lewis) in the backfield, along with transfer wide receiver Da’Shawn Martin (Kent State) and Rico Flores Jr. (UCLA) to throw to.Pribula beat out Eli Holstein for the job. Holstein is also at his third transfer destination, starting with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He transferred to the Pitt Panthers, but true freshman Mason Heintschel usurped him after the first month of the 2025 season.
