Jayden Daniels has a chance to ‘remind people who he truly is’

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is entering his third season in the NFL, and his first two seasons were polar opposites. He led the Commanders to their first NFC Championship appearance in over 30 years en route to earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2024, only to be sidelined for 10 games in year two as the Commanders won just five games.National NFL reporter for NFL.com and ESPN, Cameron Wolfe, recently spoke about how eager he is to see what Daniels does when he arrives for training camp in year three.”It’s an opportunity for Jayden Daniels to remind people who he truly is,” Wolfe says. He goes on to discuss the differences between year one and year two and notes that Daniels was not listed on ESPN’s top 10 quarterbacks list (as voted on by coaches, executives, and scouts). “It’s not because of his talents,” Wolfe continues. “They can’t trust him right now to be on the field.”AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWolfe goes on to discuss the hiring of offensive coordinator David Blough and how the goal is to have Daniels have more of a pocket presence, to spend less time in the shotgun, using bootlegs and play-action to throw the ball rather than having him take off with it. The main goal is to keep Daniels on the field and healthy, and for a quarterback, that generally means not taking off downfield with the ball.”And now we enter the offseason where the Commanders feel like a little bit of an afterthought. There’s actually more questions about can this unit stay together, can they be an NFC Championship team. So, who are they truly is gonna be the big thing.”There is further discussion on whether Daniels can translate his skills and improve in certain areas within a new scheme, and whether the Commanders can get him another weapon alongside Terry McLaurin. Questions we won’t know the answers to until we see what he does in training camp, or in the latter case, until the Commanders actually sign someone.Daniels’s year three campaign is a pivotal one for the young quarterback. He does have the opportunity to show the league who he truly is, and he might even show us a better version of the 2024 Daniels. To do that, he has to stay healthy.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Jayden Daniels has a chance to ‘remind people who he truly is’
