Thursday Flakes: World Cup Final Set, The Open Begins and More

By admin — In News — July 16, 2026

Watching the England vs. Argentina Semifinal match in the World Cup yesterday was absolutely demoralizing. I like England, don’t particularly care for plenty of Argentina’s team, and am “meh” on how I feel about Messi. The one thing I couldn’t stand with England was how they went about that match. The saying goes “If you don’t learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it.” England’s coaching staff apparently didn’t scout Argentina well in these knockout rounds.Cabo Verde gave Argentina everything they could handle back in the round of 32. Yet no one has followed the same recipe as the Blue Sharks. Egypt went 2-0 up, went “prevent” defense, and promptly lost 3-2. Switzerland, who had just tied the match at 1, went down and man and was forced to play defense only. They lost 3-1 in Added Extra Time. England, not learning from the previous two, decided to play pure defense with no one to outlet the ball to so they could stretch the very thin Argentine defense. Guess what? They lost 2-1. Cabo Verde is the only team to play Argentina true to their own style. Let’s hope Spain does what it does best on Sunday.
