With training camp drawing closer for the Jacksonville Jaguars, we typically put together a 53-man roster prediction beforehand based on what we learned during offseason programs. We will still be doing that, but the format will be different. Rather than cramming every position group into one article, we’ll devote an entire article to each unit before compiling our predictions at the end.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementUp next is the defensive tackle unit. There has been a lot of conjecture around Armstead’s future with the team, but the Jaguars don’t have the depth to move on from him. It’s also important to note that before a late-season hand injury, Armstead was producing at a fairly high level.Hamilton provides an important run-stuffing presence inside, while Orhorhoro can hopefully give the Jaguars added pass rush juice. Regis was one of the Jaguars’ third-round picks this past April.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementDickerson is the likely favorite for the next spot on the defensive tackle depth chart. He has far more experience than the other tackles on the roster, and as last season progressed, he earned a larger role in Anthony Campanile’s defense.Bohanna provides a run-first presence, and when it comes to Rose, Bollers, or Hunt, we do see teams prefer to roster players with more upside on the back end of the depth chart. If one of those players can consistently produce in training camp, that may be what this decision comes down to for James Gladstone — a young player’s potential vs. Dickerson’s veteran stability. We do see teams keep six defensive tackles, but when we zoom out and look at the defensive line unit as a whole, the Jaguars may be more likely to go heavy at defensive end, rostering six players there. That would then mean keeping five tackles.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementArik Armstead, DaVon Hamilton, Albert Regis, Ruke Orhorhoro, Matt DickersonExpecting the Jaguars to roster an extra defensive end, I went with only five tackles. And until we see more from Bollers, Rose, and Hunt, I’ll defer this final roster spot to Dickerson, who has experience on his side and caught Campanile’s attention last season. This article originally appeared on Jaguars Wire: Jaguars pre-training camp 53-man roster prediction: Defensive tackle
