Over the past hour, a wave reports out of Hungary claiming that Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has agreed a new long-term deal with the club have found confirmation in the English press, and with it suggestions that it may only be a matter of hours before the news is made official. It’s news that has been hoped for, with Szoboszlai on a deal through 2028 and pressure starting to grow to get him on a new one—or consider a future where he either has to be sold or allowed to leave the club on a free—but there had to date been little chatter suggesting talks were at an advanced stage.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThis would appear to confirm that they very much were, are now concluded, and as hoped for Szoboszlai’s long-term future is in fact at Anfield. After some of the losses of players at the end of contracts in recent years and worrying struggles to get key new player deals agreed under the stewardship of sporting director Richard Hughes, getting the 25-year-old midfield engine tied down is key to the club’s plans as they head into season one under head coach Andoni Iraola. While Szoboszlai has been a key part of Liverpool’s midfield over the past three seasons, the arrival of Iraola and a return to a more uptempo approach seems destined to make Szoboszlai even more important to the club and its chances as they look to rebound from last year’s disappointment.
