There’s plenty to like so far about this year’s NBA Summer League, featuring a mix of talented rookies and veterans trying to prove themselves worthy of roster spots.Former UNC basketball standout, Caleb Wilson, whom the Chicago Bulls took fourth overall in this year’s Draft, is arguably atop those headlines. Wilson scored a Summer League debut-record 35 points on July 10, led all players with 19 points and five blocks during Monday’s loss, then scored 19 more points and grabbed eight rebounds in his first NBA win Tuesday.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBuried deep within his hot start, Wilson also turned heads with his “dunk of the Summer League” on Monday. This slam earned Wilson the “Blake Griffin Award,” with Yahoo Sports’ Nekias Duncan comparing Wilson to the now-retired, 6-time NBA All-Star widely regarded as one of the game’s best-ever dunkers.”There’s plenty to like about the Caleb Wilson experience so far,” Duncan writes. “He shined in his debut against the Cameron Boozer-led Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, dropping a game-high 35 points on what felt like every variation of off-the-dribble 3 you can think of. On Monday night, he followed that up with a less-efficient 19-point outing, but still managed to fill the statsheet with eight rebounds and seven stocks (two steals, five blocks).”He’s going to be a problem,” Duncan continued,”Especially if the shooting is a heavier, more reliable part of his diet than initially anticipated. But we’re not here to talk about any of that. We’re here to talk about him making future Hall of Famer Blake Griffin proud with this bad boy against the Jazz.”Wilson slammed home dunks during virtually every North Carolina game he appeared in, continuously drawing praise like he’s doing here from Duncan. The Tar Heels’ once-promising 2025-26 season effectively ended, though, when Wilson broke his thumb dunking in practice before the Duke rematch.Past injuries won’t stop the rookie phenom from dunking, which initially earned him attention in college.
