One of the bigger questions chasing the Cincinnati Bengals into the offseason was the status of the linebacker room. But the Bengals responded by…not doing much.Through words and actions, the Bengals have made it extremely clear that they still believe in the second-year duo of Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt’s a development (or lack thereof) that has onlookers like Josh Edwards of CBS Sports still listing it as the biggest need for the Bengals.“The linebacker unit, in particular, stood to benefit from the addition of a veteran, but the team opted to run it back with last year’s second- and fourth-round draft picks Demetrius Knight Jr. and Barrett Carter,” Edwards wrote. “The tackling up the middle needs to be a lot better in 2026.”And this is totally fair. If the Bengals want to bank on Knight and Carter as making second-year leaps in better surroundings with the likes of Dexter Lawrence, that’s fine. But the Bengals didn’t add capable depth last year behind them. They couldn’t have predicted the Logan Wilson trade drama, but the Oren Burks signing backfired. He ranked 88th out of 88 linebackers at Pro Football Focus with a 30.2 grade last year, as one example.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementGiven that, one would think linebacker is still an area the Bengals might add to during training camp soon. But so far, the lack of urgency at the spot is something to keep watching. This article originally appeared on Bengals Wire: Bengals’ lack of urgency at linebacker remains noteworthy
