Warde Manuel’s Michigan future in limbo after unrelated board meeting

By admin — In News — July 16, 2026

Despite rumors and reports earlier this week that Michigan’s board of regents meeting on Thursday could determine the future of athletic director Warde Manuel, that discussion has been tabled for the time being. On Wednesday evening, CBS Sports’ Richard Johnson reported that neither Manuel’s future nor the results of the internal investigation into the conduct and culture of the athletic department would be topics of conversation at Thursday’s meeting.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIndeed, Thursday’s meeting came and went, and Warde’s future wasn’t on the docket. A spokesman told the Detroit Free Press that athletics weren’t discussed at all, and university president Domenico Grasso called Manuel “one of the best athletic directors in the country.”Questions about Manuel’s future center around the findings of the internal investigation, with the emphasis being on when Manuel knew about former football coach Sherrone Moore’s inappropriate relationship with a staffer, for which he was later fired for cause. Michigan has said it may publicly release elements of the report, but it’s not currently known what (if anything) the university intends to release.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementContact/Follow @College_Wire on X and @College_Wires on Threads.
