St. Augustine’s Sofia Rivera eliminated in U.S. Junior Girls

   ​Sofia Rivera of St. Augustine was eliminated from the U.S. Junior Girls Championship on July 16 with a 4 and 2 loss to Maria Isabella Errichetto of Colombia, at the Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C.Errichetto never trailed after winning the fifth and sixth holes. Rivera won her only hole with a par at No. 7 but Errichetto then birdied Nos. 10 and 11, matched pars with Rivera for four holes, and closed out the match with a birdie at No. 16.Sofia Rivera of St. Augustine hits out of a bunker at the Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C., during her second round match in the U.S. Junior Girls Championship on July 16.Rivera, who became the youngest player in First Coast history to qualify for a major championship, the U.S. Open in June, faced a formidable opponent in Errichetto, who lives and trains in nearby Southern Pines, N.C. Errichetto was coming off an AJGA victory and a tie for third in the Women’s Western Junior this summer.
