It was her second homer in as many games. NiJaree Canady, who came into the game in relief of Jessica Mullins, who had come in for Volts starter Ally Carda, was tagged with the pitching loss. She struck out three in three innings but also walked four.Similarly, Wednesday’s 7-2 loss saw the Spark blow open a tight 2-1 game by scoring five runs in the seventh inning powered by Sidney Romero’s three-run home run to left-center field and Amari Harper’s solo shot. The Spark (11-11), who have won six of their last eight games to push themselves back into the postseason picture, lead the AUSL in homers. They won four of their five matchups with the Volts this season.The loss spoiled a notable performance by Volts starter Rachel Garcia, who tied the AUSL’s single-game record with 12 strikeouts. She now has 103 career strikeouts (52 this season), making her the first AUSL player with 100 regular-season career strikeouts. Six of her strikeouts Wednesday were looking.
