The former Spartans captain has signed a professional contract for next season.Former Michigan State hockey defenseman and captain this past season Matt Basgall has signed a one-year deal with the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Gulls, who are the AHL-affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, announced the contract signing earlier this week.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBasgall wrapped up his successful Spartans career this past year, helping lead Michigan State to a third straight Big Ten championship. Basgall finished the season with 20 points (four goals and 16 assists) across 37 games.Following the Spartans season wrapping up, Basgall appeared in four regular season games with the Gulls and two games in the AHL Playoffs.
