​The Houston Rockets can potentially add more players their roster, particularly with multiple non-guaranteed contracts. While I suspect they’ll keep Isaiah Crawford, JD Davison’s money still isn’t fully guaranteed until January 10th, 2027. The Rockets sneakily have some roster flexibility, which is in stark contrast from some other teams in the league. That can actually come in handy for Houston. The Memphis Grizzlies have the most overcrowded roster, with four or five players to get rid of. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and his 21.62 million dollar contract is an obvious first option, whether it’s a buyout or just waiving him. The same could be said about D’Angelo Russel’s $5.97 million on the books. I’m not sure if either player would get picked up by another team at this stage in their careers, though there might be some interest in KCP. A.J. Johnson was recently acquired and is making $3.237 million with a $5.493 team option for the following season. After barely playing in their Summer League Finals run, it’s safe to say he’s not part of their future. I’m personally not interested in him either, so I’d pass on any of those guards. Kris Murray seems like a better option, making $5.315 million, but he also seems like someone they might want to keep if they can find the space. Not my favorite option, but someone to keep an eye on due to his positional fit in Houston. Jaylen Wells is on a partially guaranteed deal that’s worth $2.296 million if he’s on their roster at the start of the season. I’d be pretty surprised if they let him walk, especially on that low of a contract, but their hands might be tied. Walter Clayton Jr. is another player who could potentially get waived if they can’t find any trades, but I find that to be less likely. He was just traded for Jaren Jackson Jr. last season and has plenty of room to grow after only one year in the NBA. They’ve filled their roster to the brim and will have to get rid of some guys if there aren’t any trade suitors. He’s definitely a solid wing to go after if he does hit the free agent market, though there will likely be teams trying to claim him off waivers. Rafael Stone and Houston’s front office should keep their eyes peeled on talent like this that will presumably be available in the near future.
