But Chicago made up for losing Skubal to the Los Angeles Dodgers quickly on Sunday. The Cubs landed Kevin Gausman instead from the other World Series representative the Toronto Blue Jays.Baseball insiders for The Athletic Ken Rosenthal and Mitch Bannon reported the move first. Fellow MLB insider Mark Feinsand adds that infielder Ty Southisene is included in this big deal before the MLB Trade Deadline passes. Outfielder Brett Bateman rose as one more talent heading to the American League champs.Toronto gains a pair of top 25 prospects in exchange for Gausman. He lands on a Cubs team that owns a 63-49 record but trails the National League Central leader Milwaukee Brewers by 6.5 games. Chicago has won its last six of ten games and are among four NL teams that have surpassed the 60-win mark.This move proves the Cubs are aiming to deliver an aggressive push into the postseason. Hence why Chicago surfaced in the mix for Skubal before the World Series champion Dodgers intervened. The Cubs, however, wind up pulling off the next available move ahead of Monday’s deadline. Chicago aims to produce back-to-back playoff appearances for the first time since 2017 and 2018.That wasn’t the only Chicago-Toronto move executed before the deadline passed. Pitcher Jameson Taillon heads to the Blue Jays too along with the past draft prospects.
