Furthermore, they are also 2.0 games back in the American League wild card race.While the M’s bolstered their offense before Monday’s trade deadline, acquiring Taylor Ward from the Baltimore Orioles, Seattle suffered a loss as well, as general manager Justin Hollander told Seattle Sports 710 that outfielder Luke Raley is likely to miss the rest of the season with injury.Raley was recently placed on the injured list with a forearm strain in his left arm. He had played through it for at least a month, but manager Dan Wilson said it’s an issue that Raley has dealt with for years.Now 31 years old, Raley was hitting .225 this season with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs, though most of that damage was done in April and May. He was hitting just .173 in his last 30 games with one home run.The Mariners acquired him before the 2024 season from the Tampa Bay Rays for Jose Caballero. Steven Bisig-USA TODAY SportsHis absence, coupled with the Mariners trade deadline moves, creates some roster issues moving forward.Seattle figures to have Cal Raleigh, Josh Naylor, Cole Young, Colt Emerson, Brendan Donovan, Dom Canzone, Julio Rodriguez, Randy Arozarena and Ward as regular contributors to the lineup. Donovan is going to be activated from the injured list on Tuesday.Beyond that, Seattle will have Mitch Garver as the 10th of 13 position players. Then, the Mariners need to keep three of Leo Rivas, Stuart Fairchild, Weston Wilson, Rob Refsynder, and Victor Robles, who are all on the roster right now. There’s a chance that Nolan Jones, who was just acquired form the Chicago White Sox, could make an appearance, and Miles Mastrobuoni is also an option.Up nextThe Mariners will be back in action on Tuesday night at home against the Detroit Tigers, who just traded away both Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize. Despite that, Detroit is just 54-58, only 2.5 games back of the wild card spot.
