​LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – The Lansing Lugnuts fell just short in their bid for a sweep of the Lake County Captains and had their six-game winning streak snapped with an 11-9 loss in 10 innings Sunday.The back-and-forth game saw the two teams combine for 26 hits (15 for Lake County, 11 for Lansing).Lake County also had six-year MLB veteran Ben Lively on the mound to start the game. The Cleveland Guardians pitcher was making a rehab start and finished with a final line of 3 IP, 4 R, 4 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K.Pedro Pineda delivered the big blow against Lively, launching a three-run homer to left center in the second inning.Pineda finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and 3 RBI to pace the Lugnuts’ offense.Trailing 8-6 with two outs in the ninth, Lansing’s Daniel Bucciero came through with a two-run single to force extras. However, the Captains scratched across three runs in the top of the tenth, highlighted by Jeffrey Mercedes’ two-run homer. It was his second home run of the day after he lifted a solo blast to right in the fourth.The Lugnuts took five of six in the weeklong series and have an off day Monday before beginning a new series at the West Michigan Whitecaps on Tuesday.Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
