NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WJBF)- In the NFL, one former North Augusta standout is proving himself in training camp. Drew Stevens and veteran kicker Jake Moody were in a kicking battle throughout Washington Commanders training camp, until the team decided to cut Moody this week.Stevens signed on as an undrafted free agent with the team earlier this year. The rookie made a school record 76 field goals in his college career at Iowa, making 12 field goals from 50 plus yards out. The rookie went 43 for 48 at camp practice and is excited for this new opportunity at the professional level.”Easy terminology, just getting adjusted to how good the operation is. Because, I mean, I thought I had probably one of the better operations in college, if not the best in a few of those years in there,” Stevens said.”And it’s still like, it’s insane, the difference between here and there. I’m not even thinking about it. It’s basically kicking off sticks.””I feel like the mental growth, whether it’s a good or bad day, I think the best place I’ve grown is I haven’t changed anything, I’ve been sticking to what I believe is going to work.”The Commanders next pre-season game is Saturday at noon against the Detroit Lions.Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
