In his time at Georgia Tech, Bynum played a pivotal role in leading the team to an NCAA championship game, highlighted by a crucial shot against the Oklahoma State Cowboys, before entering the draft that year. Later that summer, he signed with the Celtics after failing to be picked up by any team in the draft. However, he did not secure a spot on the roster for the season ahead, as he was cut just over two months later, on October 25. Years later, Bynum briefly returned to the Celtics after playing for the Golden State Warriors and the Detroit Pistons.
