Anthony Wint explains how fighting feels like child’s play after NFL

Two fights. Twelve days. No problem. Anthony Wint is calling the shots as he sees it. After a quick knockout of Matt Adams on Dana White’s Contender Series on Aug. 11, Wint (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC), called for a shot at UFC Fight Night 285 on Saturday in Sacramento, Calif. UFC CEO Dana White quickly obliged.”In any work field, I think if I work at a car dealership, if I want Saturdays off and I sell 100 cars per month, they’re going to give me Saturdays off,” Wint told MMA Junkie on Wednesday. “If I work at a marketing firm and I want to bring my dog to the office and I’m making the biggest quota out of all my teammates and employees, they’re going to give it to me. If I go out there and produce in the cage the way I’m supposed to, Dana doesn’t have a choice. Hunter doesn’t have a choice. If you go out there and knock out people and are as good on the mic as I am, what can you really say, man? I couldn’t find Dana’s address but I kid you not, I’m going to keep threatening him, because obviously it works.”Contender Series or UFC, many fighters never compete twice in 12 days. It’s supremely rare. But Wint is rare. Not many fighters have played in the NFL prior to their MMA career either. Wint has, though. He played two games for the New York Jets in 2018, the pinnacle of a blue-collar football career. He wasn’t drafted, but made the practice squad and eventually worked his way to the main roster and into a game.Over the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, Wint decided to pivot to combat sports on the advice of former agent Malki Kawa, of First Round Management. It immediately became apparent to him that fighting offered a level of control that football did not.”I always feel comfortable,” Wint said. “I’m a dangerous man. Not only that, but I’m a thinker. A lot of guys are just punchers. A lot of guys don’t have the mind. A lot of guys don’t come from the background I come from. I’ve said that multiple times. But the biggest weapon I have is not my speed, not my strength, not my athleticism, but the fact that I played middle linebacker in the NFL. People don’t understand what that means. I had to line up 10 of my teammates: ‘Hey, this is the call. This is what you’re doing. This is what you’re doing.’ Then I had to look at, possibly Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, all these great minds, and say, ‘All right, you’ve got your 11 pieces. I’ve gotten my 11 pieces. What moves are we making?'”Now, I’ve just got to look at another man, who I have plenty of film on, probably isn’t going to change, and then I can dictate what he does? It’s child’s play. There are not too many people in the world good at warfare, mental warfare, like me. I’m used to doing it 25 seconds. Now, I get to do it in 900 seconds and dissect you and put your face on the canvas. If I’m being honest, it’s not fair. I’m honestly cheating.”His opponent Saturday, Terrance Chatman (5-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC), rose through the same regional circuit as Wint. Had they not been signed to the UFC, there’s a good chance they
