​Arnau Martínez closes a historic chapter at Girona.The Girona and Valencia have reached an agreement for the transfer of Arnau Martinez, putting an end to a nine-season period in which the footballer has grown from the youth categories to becoming the captain and one of the key players of the first team.Arnau Martínez joined Girona in the summer of 2018, still at cadet age, coming from FC Barcelona’s youth academy. From Cadet A, he quickly progressed through the Academy, reaching the reserve team and later the first team.His debut with Girona took place on December 17, 2020, at just 17 years old, in a Copa del Rey match against Gimnástica Segoviana. That day marked the beginning of a career that would make him one of the youngest players with the most appearances in the red-and-white jersey.From the academy to the first teamDuring the 2020/21 season, Arnau began alternating his appearances between Girona B and the first team. On May 9, 2021, he scored his first professional goal against Logroñés.The following season was particularly significant. Arnau established himself as an important part of the team and was a protagonist in one of the most memorable moments in Girona’s recent history. On June 19, 2022, in the final of the promotion play-off to the First Division against Tenerife, he scored the third goal for Girona in the 1-3 victory that secured the team’s return to the top tier.Following that promotion, Arnau continued to grow in professional football and established himself as a versatile player, capable of playing both as a full-back and in other defensive positions.
