Bazoumana Toure opened the scoring for Newcastle before Harvey Barnes, coming off the bench, struck twice to send Jaissle’s team through. We will face Millwall away in round three of the Carabao Cup 🤝 pic.twitter.com/9qqc5HatZU— Newcastle United (@NUFC) August 26, 2026The reward for the Magpies is a 280-mile trip to The Den to face Championship side Millwall, with the match scheduled for one of the weeks beginning Sept. 7 or Sept. 14.All that said, the truth is Newcastle surely avoided any worst-case scenario. The Magpies dodged all Premier League heavyweights entering at this stage, with Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Sunderland, Brighton and Crystal Palace all joining the competition because they participate in European competition this season — and Tottenham Hotspur drawing Liverpool next. The eight clubs competing in either the Champions League or Europa League could not be drawn against one another because the third round has been split across two weeks to accommodate UEFA scheduling. For Newcastle, Millwall represents another easy-on-paper matchup to advance further in the cup, although this time Jaissle’s team will have to do so away from St. James’ Park and they’ll need to perform more resolutely than they did against West Brom. What do you make of the draw?
