However, they failed to win either time, so can they finally get over the hump in 2026 and match the Rams’ success? Both teams are tied for the fourth-most wins in the NFL since 2024, when Jim Harbaugh left Michigan to take over the Chargers. Despite that, the Rams have been noticeably more successful in the postseason in that span, with three wins compared to the Chargers’ none. Harbaugh won at least one playoff game in his three postseason appearances with the 49ers, including three straight NFC Championship appearances. His Chargers haven’t been remotely close to winning in the playoffs. During Harbaugh’s first season, Houston locked the Chargers down and picked off Justin Herbert four times in a 32-12 blowout. In 2025, the Chargers trailed 9-3 entering the fourth quarter in a winnable Wild Card Round game against the Patriots. Somehow, it seemed an impossible task for Herbert and company to score a touchdown. Drake Maye threw a late touchdown pass to secure New England’s 16-3 win. The Chargers have won just one playoff game in the last decade. Since moving to Los Angeles in 2017, the team is 1-4 in four playoff appearances, with the lone win coming in 2018 against a rookie Lamar Jackson-led Ravens squad. They’ve won just 12 postseason games in their history. For (an unfair) comparison, the Rams have nearly matched that with 10 postseason wins in the Sean McVay era alone. It’s hard not to see the Chargers as nothing more than the Rams’ SoFi Stadium roommate based on that. Still, the Chargers deserve hype, even if they haven’t made anywhere close to the same headlines this offseason. The team has a new defensive coordinator in Chris O’Leary after Jesse Minter took the Ravens job. Don’t expect much of a drop-off in production, as the Chargers retained many of the pieces that helped them secure top-five defenses in the last two years. Plus, Mike McDaniel joins LA as its offensive coordinator alongside Herbert. McDaniel hyped up the Chargers and his dynamic with Harbaugh during a recent interview with NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, the Chargers have the fifth-highest odds to make the AFC playoffs at -156. FanDuel Sportsbook also has them at +1600 odds to win the Super Bowl, fifth-highest in the league behind the Rams (+500), Bills (+1000), Seahawks (+1100) and Ravens (+1300).
