​ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – High school football is officially back, in the Twin Tiers. The Norther Tier League (NTL) opened up their 2026 season, on Friday. Nine area teams took to the gridiron to kick-off their new seasons, with several major matchups. Of the top games, Towanda and Athens were among the winners. Additionally, Montoursville topped Troy, led by a trio of local coaches. Head Coach Reese Holmes and WR/DB coach Timmy Ward of Canton, along with Wellsboro grad and running backs coach Keith Cavanaugh guided the Warriors past the Trojans 26-19.
