​Fremont Ross football had two choices after being forced to forfeit a Week 1 victory because a player was academically ineligible.The Little Giants could make excuses, or move forward and make the best of the circumstances. The ball was in the air about 50 yards and Garza took a hit as he released the ball, although he said he saw Lewis score.”Let it fly and trust my guy,” Garza said. “He showed up.”Ross had just taken possession after Englund recovered a fumble near midfield.”Any time you get a turnover, that’s a time to take a shot,” Winters said. “That’s what we did.”Ben Waggoner rushed for two touchdowns and Garza added a score on the ground. Konner Frasure recovered a Ross fumble for a touchdown and Carson Lewis kicked one field goal, after an Englund interception. “We came back from adversity,” Englund said. “After the forfeit, we made a statement. When we heard the news, we wanted to get on the field right away and beat Sandusky.”Ross self reported the eligibility violation, reaching out to Tiffin Columbian and OHSAA. The player in question won’t play this season as a junior.”We acknowledge the fact a mistake was made,” Ross athletic director Chad Berndt said. “We own it. We accept any penalties OHSAA administers.
