The Houston Texans are cutting down their roster to 53 players ahead of the NFL’s deadline Sunday.We will be tracking the team’s moves throughout the day leading up to the 5 p.m. deadline.Justin Watson releasedAmong the most notable releases Sunday was veteran wide receiver Justin Watson. Watson signed a two-year deal with the Texans during the 2025 offseason and was viewed as a good special-teams player. But the competition at wide receiver this training camp was deep. Watson was used with the first-team offense at times but he was also often outperformed by others. Coach DeMeco Ryans conceded the wide receiver competition was among the toughest in camp, adding that players deserving of making the team would be cut. The move likely means the Texans will keep six receivers on the roster as opposed to seven. First wave of cutsThe Texans have cut wide receiver Treyvhon Saunders, Daniel Sobkowicz, and Dominic Bailey, a person with knowledge of the cuts told the Chronicle.
