​The skies are falling in Detroit for Tigers fans.Detroit entered the season with hopes of reaching the World Series. Just a few months later, Tigers fans are simply dreaming of a game where the offense can consistently do its job.Unfortunately, that dream did not come to fruition Sunday afternoon against one of the league’s best teams.The Tigers fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 6-1, in another frustrating showing from an offense filled with young potential and veterans who simply haven’t produced enough.Detroit was able to keep the game close for a while, but in a story Tigers fans know all too well, the bullpen eventually blew up what little hope remained. In the end, though, it may not have mattered. The bats were once again nearly silent.The Tigers mustered just two hits for the second time in three days.Kevin McGonigle provided one of those hits, singling home Gleyber Torres, who had doubled earlier in the fourth inning. The RBI single tied the game at 1-1, and through nearly half of the ballgame, things were beginning to look promising for Detroit.But it wasn’t long before Los Angeles showed its muscle.Teoscar Hernández launched his 12th home run of the season over the Comerica Park wall in the sixth inning, giving the Dodgers a 3-1 lead.Even then, Detroit remained within striking distance. The Tigers had an opportunity to keep the game manageable heading into the late innings.That opportunity disappeared quickly in the eighth.Tanner Rainey was given a chance to showcase his stuff for Detroit’s coaching staff and failed to capitalize, allowing three runs on two hits while recording just one out.From there, the Tigers crumbled.Another frustrating offensive performance. Another bullpen collapse. Another loss for a team that, just a few weeks ago, held the final American League Wild Card spot.Since then, Detroit has gone on a heater of losing, dropping game after game and watching its postseason hopes slowly slip away.It’s difficult to win when Colt Keith, Dillon Dingler, Brett Callahan, Max Clark, Javier Báez, Hao-Yu Lee and Zach McKinstry combine to go 0-for-20 with just two walks.The Tigers have fallen well below the expectations placed upon them entering the season. In a year that began with legitimate World Series aspirations, Detroit is now struggling to remain relevant in the postseason conversation.The tides need to change quickly if the Tigers want to regain the momentum they’ve built over the past couple of seasons.Now, Detroit is without its top two pitchers in Tarik Skubal and Casey Mize, while relying heavily on a roster filled with young players still attempting to reach their potential.But potential can only get a team so far.The Tigers dropped to 63-73 following Sunday’s loss and now sit 5.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot with just 26 games remaining.It will take something close to a miracle for Detroit to reach the postseason.But until there’s an “E” next to their name in the standings, despite the way things may feel
