Bosnian soccer fans brought the energy to Seattle for their World Cup match against Qatar. In a specifically cultural way.The world’s largest džezva, recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records, landed in Seattle yesterday underneath the Space Needle. The long-handled copper pot is used to make Bosnian or Turkish coffee. Bosnian fans have traveled the country handing out thousands of cups of free coffee in St. Louis, Toronto, Los Angeles and now Seattle.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement”Because Bosnian coffee is never just coffee,” the Congress of Bosniaks of North American wrote in a social media post.Džezvas are used to make Bosnian or Turkish coffee and made out of copper, brass or stainless steel. They are usually small pots with long handles used to boil very fine grounds of coffee. The large džezva serves about 8,000 cups of coffee and was commissioned by the Bosnian food manufacturer Vispak in 2004, according to KSL Sports. The džezva traveled between St. Louis (home to the largest population of Bosnians outside of Bosnia), to the team’s home base in Salt Lake City, as well as to their group games in Toronto and Los Angeles before arriving in Seattle.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementIt’s a potential 4,000-mile journey for the large coffee pot, with more travel on the way after Bosnia won their last group match against Qatar.Zachary Fletcher is a trending news reporter with USA TODAY Network’s Washington state team.
