Experts claim the team put Josh Allen at unnecessary risk by playing him on a surface that was falling apart.The Athletic’s Tim Graham revealed this week that the team had to tear out the grass installed in October 2025. In that short time he was taken down twice, including one sack.Tony Dick, a sports management professor and former Browns assistant head groundskeeper, watched the film and did not hold back.‘Yes, natural turf is safer in a perfect setting,’ Dick said. ‘But if you have the situation like you have in Buffalo, and I went back and watched the film, you cannot tell me that field was safer than the artificial turf they just left.’‘I’m never putting Josh Allen on a field in that condition.’The Bills have now decided to resod the entire field.Matteo Bartolotta, whose company M&K Turf works with the Bills’ grounds staff, said the move was the right one even if the timing is tight.‘It’s a lot more common to replace sod fields than people think,’ he said. ‘We do have the three-game stretch coming. If they wait, with that NFL test of playability, they might not have passed it if the conditions got worse.
