​CHARLEVOIX — Second half teams are tough to watch as a coach. But, if his Charlevoix football team keeps pulling out wins in second half comeback fashion, Rayder head coach Don Jess might not care. For a second straight week to begin the season, Charlevoix pulled out a come-from-behind win after trailing at the half, winning a 28-12 rivalry win over Boyne City.“It’s not good for my health,” Jess joked about the comebacks. “We just came out in the second half and played better, I’d say on both sides of the ball. Offensively and defensively.”Charlevoix clawed back from 16 points down against East Jordan in Week 1 at home, then treated the home crowd to a comeback after a 12-7 halftime deficit Friday night against Boyne.Simply put, Charlevoix just made plays when they needed to in the second half.“We were able to get some good passes on them and Conor (Vondra) had a good night running the ball,” Jess said. “Collin (Jess) had a big interception in the second half that was a big momentum shift. “It was a good win and it’s always nice when you get that rivalry win. Marie in opener for total dominationVondra led on the ground with 80 yards on six carries, then caught two passes for 35 yards. Collin Jess and Carter Greenacre connected for two scores, with Jess finishing 7-of-13 for 109 yards and two scores, then Greenacre caught three balls for 46 yards and two touchdowns. Landen Whisler and Kalen Titus also each scored on the ground. East Jordan, Harbor Springs: Webb leads East Jordan to first victory, Harbor Springs gets physical with Glen LakeDefensively, the Rayders made 11 total tackles for a loss, led by Peter Yanchulis with six tackles, one for a loss and two sacks. Lucas Meyer and Ryan Glass also each had a sack. Warchol also made three stops behind the line. Charlevoix (2-0, 1-0) will have its biggest test of the season yet ahead, as they head to Kingsley in a Friday, Sept. 11 road trip, their first time away from Kipke Field. Gaylord: Gaylord football uses dominant second half to defeat EscanabaBoyne City (0-2, 0-1) will be off next week after having Week 3 originally scheduled with Cheboygan, who forfeit the 2026 season.
