   ​Schools are closed for Labor Day today, but high school continues.Gulf Breeze girls volleyball remains the area standard after wins over Booker T. Washington and Tate, while Jay is also off to an impressive 10-1 start.Gulf Breeze girls cross country had another good week too, finishing second at the Pace Patriot Invitational, with senior Ashton Dahlem winning the 5K in her first race this season.Three local girls golf teams won events this week too, with Gulf Breeze, Pace and Pensacola Catholic coming out on top in quad matches.All that means plenty of nominees for this week’s Florida Power & Light PNJ Girls Athlete of the Week. Pensacola Catholic volleyball’s Brandi Lee Rhodes won last week’s award, destroying the field with 85.6 percent of the vote .Now it’s time to make your voice heard again. Voting closes at 11 a.m Saturday, and the winners will be announced each Monday after the poll closes. Each weekly winner will be awarded a PNJ Athlete of the Week shirt provided by BSN SPORTS. An athlete can only win one time per season.Nominees will be accepted via phone or email, but the poll is decided by PNJ staff. Send nominations by Sunday night.
