With the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks set for Wednesday, the New England Patriots could obviously use some additional help on the edge. It has remained one of the team’s weakest positions throughout the offseason. So for this week’s “Gimme Him” player, Seahawks edge defender Uchenna Nwosu is the pick. Nwosu recorded 35 combined tackles and seven sacks last season. It was a career year for the former second-round draft pick out of USC. He also managed to play for a full season after suffering injuries in 2023 and 2024. The former Trojan first broke onto the NFL scene with 59 combined tackles and 9.5 sacks as a rookie in 2022. So his elite potential has been evident from the start. The Patriots learned firsthand how disruptive he could be after he secured a hit and pick-six on Patriots quarterback Drake Maye at Super Bowl LX. The Patriots have desperately needed consistent production at the edge position, and they are relying on multiple new faces, including veteran Dre’Mont Jones, second-year defender Elijah Ponder and rookie Gabe Jacas to provide that production. Nwosu could provide reliable veteran production at the position as another game-wrecker added to the mix. Unfortunately for the Patriots, the only thing Nwosu will be looking to provide on Wednesday night is more pain for Maye, who was sacked six times by the Seahawks in the Super Bowl loss. The Patriots’ offensive line struggled towards the back half of the year, and they will get tested immediately with a player like Nwosu.
