​Former Atlanta Falcons center Jovaughn Gwyn is set to make his first NFL start this Sunday for the Baltimore Ravens. Gwyn was named the team’s Week 1 starter by head coach Jesse Minter after beating out veteran Ethan Pocic in training camp.”Got a lot of confidence in him,” Minter said of Gwyn. “This is a guy that when opportunity knocks, are you ready to take advantage? He’s done a really good job. He’s obviously repped a lot with our starters over the last couple of weeks.”The Falcons selected Gwyn in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft out of South Carolina. He spent his first three seasons in Atlanta (2023-2025), appearing in 19 games and playing primarily on special teams.Gwyn followed former Falcons offensive line coach/run-game coordinator Dwayne Ledford to Baltimore. Atlanta did not retain the majority of former head coach Raheem Morris’ staff, and Ledford was one of the most coveted assistants.While there’s no disputing current offensive line coach Bill Callahan’s greatness, Ledford did a nice job with Falcons’ offensive line during his five seasons in Atlanta (2021-2025).It will be interesting to see how the 27-year-old Gwyn plays in his first start blocking for two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. The Falcons will host the Ravens in Week 5 on Sunday Night Football, so they will get a first-hand look at the player they let walk out the door. Atlanta kicks off the 2026 regular season this Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road.
