If there’s one positive for Tagovailoa, it’s the fact that he really hasn’t had much competition because Michael Penix Jr. is currently injured. It’s unclear when Penix will return full-time, though there’s hope and an expectation that he could return soon. He returned to practice last week after tearing his ACL last November. While Tagovailoa won the job, Mike Florio doesn’t believe he should’ve. He spoke about the decision prior to it being made, naming Jack Strand as the guy who should be playing.“Our guess is that it will happen early in the week, probably on Monday, with the announcement coming Tuesday morning at the earliest,” Florio writes. “And if Penix still isn’t ready to go as he continues to recover from a torn ACL, the likely options are Tua and Cooper Rush. (I’d roll the dice with undrafted rookie Jack Strand, but that’s possibly one of the many reasons why I don’t run a team.)”Tagovailoa losing a starting quarterback job to Penix would be a pretty tough sign for his career, so it’s also important to recognize that the Falcons did just draft him a couple of years ago. I’m curious to see how all of this plays out over the next couple of weeks, but it doesn’t feel like there’s going to be a guaranteed starter week in and week out like Atlanta is probably hoping for.More NFL news:Jordan Love, Packers put on warning ahead of Week 1 vs. VikingsJets already linked to multiple QBs ahead of Week 1, including Miami starRobert Saleh makes insane statement that Cam Ward must deliver onPackers suggested to target 12.0 sack star despite comments from higher-upsEagles reportedly trying to trade quarterback despite making 53-man roster
