Musketeers host The Master’s Academy International for developmental session ahead of final weekend of preseason

   ​SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – The Musketeers are a couple of days away from its final weekend of preseason action as the team continues to construct the final roster, doing so in a different way than usual.The Musketeers hosted Masters Academy International out of Massachusetts for a developmental weekend.MAI has ties to Sioux City as center Joseph St. Laurent and goaltender Will Torres were both picked by the Musketeers in the USHL Draft. This experience gives the Masters Academy an excellent perspective on what to expect and prepare for at the next level.”I think it’s going to be super valuable for us, especially as a team. You know, everyone’s on kind of on the edge of making us a gel or a team. So I think it’s a really good opportunity to kind of see the size and the speed of play,” MAI goaltender Will Torres said.”I think it’s good, especially because like I can be around all like staff coaches and just being around like the guys especially, it’s like it helps you out just to get a feel for what it’s going to be like when you’res here,” The developmental event also works as a way for the Musketeers staff to evaluate its training camp roster against different competition.Sioux City looks to finalize its roster after completing the preseason slate on Saturday as many players remain on the bubble for a chance to wear the Musketeer uniform this season.The Musketeers are looking forward to taking plenty away from this weekend as they prepare for the regular season schedule.”We really do need to see some consistent level of team play because once we get through those preseason games, I think we have one practice until we play in Chicago. So those become your final tune up opportunities,” Musketeers head coach Jason Kersner said. “We talk about our system, we talk about our tactics, talk about the style and identity that we want to play. We need to see it a little bit in these games against Sioux Falls because there’s not going to be much time to practice it before we get to Chicago and play our first game against Green Bay.”Sioux City is set for its Friday preseason game at Vernon Ice Center in Sioux Center followed by a Saturday matchup in Sioux Falls.
