​Purdue basketball approved Trey Kaufman-Renn’s request to enter the transfer portal, a formality in the former Boilermaker star’s quest to find a team for a potential sixth season.A Clark County Circuit Judge on Wednesday granted Kaufman-Renn’s motion for a temporary restraining order against the NCAA. It allowed the Silver Creek alum to join another team while awaiting a hearing for a preliminary injunction which could grant more permanent eligibility status for a sixth season.Kaufman-Renn spent five seasons at Purdue – one as a redshirt and four as a key role player or full-time starter. He announced Wednesday, following the granting of the TRO, that he would not return to the program for a still-tenuous sixth season.As of Thursday morning, that preliminary injunction hearing had not been scheduled.Kaufman-Renn said during Tuesday’s hearing “six or seven” coaches reached out to him or his representatives about playing for their college program in 2026-27. He immediately becomes the most attractive frontcourt addition – or arguably at any position – for those teams with roster space and resources available.Kaufman-Renn started all 39 games of Purdue’s run to the national championship game in 2023-24. He was a first team All-Big Ten Conference selection and honorable mention All-American as a junior, averaging 20.1 points and 6.5 rebounds. He averaged 14.2 points and a career-high 8.3 rebounds last season while helping lead a third consecutive run to the Elite Eight.The Minnesota Timberwolves drafted Kaufman-Renn with the 59th overall selection in the second round of June’s NBA draft. However, while he played for the franchise in the NBA Summer League, he has not signed a contract.
