​WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Friday nights are about to get a lot louder for one southwest Kansas community.Garden City High School will celebrate each Buffaloes touchdown this season with the firing of a single artillery shell at home games.The Garden City Commission voted in August to temporarily waive the city’s fireworks ordinance to allow the tradition, clearing the way for the team set them off throughout the fall.
Dodge City takes down Topeka in Thursday matchup City officials are warning residents and nearby businesses that the blast will be very loud and may catch people off guard. The sound may carry well beyond the stadium.The Buffaloes host Wichita South on Friday for their first home game of the season, which also marks Military Appreciation Night.
