​Tennessee soccer opened SEC play with a 3-1 win on the road against LSU, extending its unbeaten streak to start the season.The No. 8 Lady Vols (6-0-1, 1-0 SEC) were led by a goal from senior forward Shae O’Rourke in the 11th minute before LSU equalized in the 39th minute to make it a 1-1 game at halftime. Senior forward Taylor Cheatham scored her third goal of the season in the 55th minute, which would be the game-winner before junior midfielder Ines Derrien added some insurance on a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.The Tigers (2-6-1) had a rough start to their season before the return of fifth-year senior defenders Jazmin Ferguson and Jocelyn Ollivierre, who played in the previous three games after a Louisiana judge’s temporary restraining order granted them another year of eligibility.Ollivierre started for LSU and played all 90 minutes against Tennessee, but Ferguson, who previously signed a pro contract, did not see the field during the conference matchup.The SEC announced a new rule Aug. 25 banning any athletes from rosters who previously signed professional contracts or declared for drafts, although the rule was specific to the NFL and other professional football leagues, NBA, the NBA G-League and WNBA.LSU soccer players return for fifth year under court orderFerguson and Ollivierre were reportedly the first SEC athletes to play under the court order when they both entered LSU’s game against Arizona on Aug. 30. The temporary restraining order granted additional eligibility to 42 athletes from the high school class of 2022.The SEC initially threatened schools with penalties for playing athletes who gained eligibility through the court order, but eventually conceded it would comply with the ruling in Louisiana.Ferguson testified that though she signed a contract with the Tampa Bay Sun FC in the USL and was paid $4,500, she ended her contract after not playing in any games and paid the money back in hopes of playing for LSU again through the new age-based eligibility model. Ollivierre did not sign a pro contract and got a job in Medicaid before returning to the Tigers, according to the LSU Reveille.Ferguson played her first two seasons at East Carolina before transferring to LSU, where she was a starter the last two seasons.
