​After an eventful offseason, the New Orleans Saints officially open their 2026 season with a road test at the Detroit Lions. New Orleans is coming off a 6-11 season but looks to have a vastly improved roster. Detroit went 9-8 in 2025 and missed the playoffs, but still possess one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. Lions quarterback Jared Goff has a wide array of weapons to target when he drops back to pass. However, they’ll be going up against one of the league’s top-ranked pass defenses from a year ago. LaPorta is coming off an injury-riddled season, but his presence in the lineup takes this passing attack to a different level. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs is an elite all-purpose weapon who is a game-changer. Gibbs caught a career-best 77 passes in 2025, second on the team, for 616 yards. Lethal out of the backfield, Gibbs also creates problems when going in motion or can even line up in the slot.Goff also has a deep wide receiver unit, opening up a myriad of options. Amon-Ra St. Brown is perhaps the NFL’s most underrated wideout and the quarterback’s most trusted target. St. Brown had 117 receptions for 1,401 yards and 11 scores in 2025. It was his fourth straight year with over 1,100 yards and at least 105 catches. The big-play threat of the group is Jameson Williams, who last year had 7 scores and career-highs of 1,117 yards and 65 receptions. Williams can take the top off defenses but is also a dynamic runner after the catch.
