The Rebels opened the season with a 27-21 defeat at the hands of Memphis. Not only is UNLV led by a familiar name in Mullen; its quarterback is a former five-star and a two-time transfer who started his career at Oklahoma before transferring to Auburn and then UNLV: Jackson Arnold. Arnold completed 25 of 37 passes in the loss against Memphis, for 291 yards and two touchdowns. Arnold also carried the ball 21 times for 54 yards and one score against the Tigers. UNLV bounced back with a win over Hawaii last weekend, one in which Arnold had a much quieter game. Arnold completed just eight of 18 passes against Hawaii for 116 yards. But running back Jai-Den stepped up in the win over the Rainbow Warriors, rushing the ball 20 times for 143 yards and a touchdown.North Texas, meanwhile, is just 0-1 on the season after falling in its campaign opener against reigning national champion Indiana 52-16.
