​With the 2026-27 regular season right around the corner, the Oklahoma City Thunder enter the year as a popular title pick. Even after their summer of cost-cutting moves, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren and Jalen Williams remain one of the most successful and decorated trios in the league.The Thunder had a league-best 64-18 this past regular season. But fell short of their back-to-back ambitions in the 2026 Western Conference Finals. Injuries played a large part in that. But that’s in the past. Can’t change anything about it now.Now that the offseason is behind us and we’re looking ahead to another nine-month marathon, let’s rewind on OKC’s biggest moves and preview what most folks believe the Thunder will do this upcoming year.To get ready for the upcoming season, Thunder Wire conducted a 16-question fan survey. A total of 1,145 Thunder fans participated. Not every question was answered, though. The response totals for each question can be seen at the top left corner of the pie charts.One question was about Sam Presti. Most Thunder fans were pleased with what he did this offseason. Even if they didn’t make any additive moves sans the 2026 NBA draft. Over 60% of voters gave him a B grade for what the longtime NBA GM did this summer.As nauseating as it is, an NBA GM’s job at times requires saving ownership’s pockets. That’s what happened this offseason. The Thunder shaved their payroll to get below the second apron and even have an open roster spot available. Not many GMs can walk the fine line of doing that and building a contender. He’s hoping to pull off that act.The Thunder saved a boatload of money without sacrificing a ton of talent. Lu Dort, Isaiah Joe and Aaron Wiggins were familiar faces and fan favorites, but the writing was on the wall for each to leave. They were on the outside of OKC’s playoff rotation by the end of the year. And with ready replacements on the roster, they hope they don’t miss a beat despite serious roster turnover for the first time in a couple of years.On top of that, Presti found a way to keep Isaiah Hartenstein around for a little bit longer. He signed a three-year, $75 million contract extension this summer. Not only does it secure his long-term future, but his 2026-27 cap number dwindled from a projected $28.5 million to $25 million. And if necessary, OKC should be able to flip him next summer for assets. That’s how great a value his new deal is.You can’t keep the same group of guys together forever. The Thunder learned the harsh realities of the NBA’s salary-cap restrictions. Being able to kick the can down the road on a second-apron year is a huge feat. We’ll see if the internal development they’re banking on from their roster pays off. How the complementary pieces look will be one of the more prominent storylines in OKC’s 2026-27 regular season.The one piece of unfinished business left is Cason Wallace.
